Letter of Understanding with Funeral Home
This document is a non-binding agreement between you (the cryonics member) and a local funeral home. It outlines how the funeral home will cooperate with your cryonics plan after your legal death, especially if a cryonics standby team is delayed or unavailable.
Key Features:
-
Acknowledges your membership in the Cryonics Institute and your legal right to cryopreservation.
-
Covers two possible scenarios:
-
If a cryonics standby team arrives in time, they take over all procedures and the funeral home may not be needed.
-
If the team is delayed or absent, the funeral home agrees to:
-
Cooperate with on-site volunteers performing CPR or cooling.
-
Allow cooling to continue during transport.
-
Avoid embalming, autopsy, or cremation.
-
Expedite paperwork for fast transport to the Cryonics Institute.
-
-
-
Recognizes that your body is a legal anatomical gift, and must be handled accordingly under Michigan law.
This document builds local support and helps ensure that funeral home staff don’t accidentally obstruct your cryonics procedures—especially during emergencies or after hours.
🤝 Recommended: Review this in advance with your chosen funeral director and keep a signed copy on file with them and your family.
