I know, I know…
We came home from vacation at the beginning of February, and I found Dexter (my cat) downstairs with a little friend. They were actually playing together. The mouse couldn’t have been more than 6 weeks old. He looked up at Dexter as if asking, “Are you my Mommy?” The mouse must have squeezed through a crack so tiny the rest of his family couldn’t follow.
I put him in a box with food and water. Dexter and Mindy (my two cats) loved to watch him scamper about. They had so much fun with him that we decided to keep him until spring when the weather would be warm enough to let him go outside.
Naturally, that didn’t work out. Dexter passed away a week ago, and our little mouse decided to go looking for his friend. I got mouse traps (the kind that capture, not kill) and left them around the house, but, so far, no mouse.
I probably should have let him go earlier, but it’s so cold outside. Just couldn’t do it.
With luck, maybe I’ll get a second chance…
